Burns Night at MacGregor Downs
Cary Page Rotary Club is delighted to be hosting an authentic Burns Supper on Friday January 25th, and you and your friends are invited! What is a Burns Supper you ask? Every January, throughout the world, Burns Suppers are hosted in honor of Scotland’s national poet Robert Burns (also known as Rabbie Burns). Although born on January 25th, 1759, his life and works are still celebrated worldwide. His poetry covers many themes: love, honor, equality of men and women, nature, religion and hypocrisy. His work has been translated into many languages and we often quote his works (e.g. the best laid schemes of mice & men…) without even realizing it.
A Burns Supper is a sit down dinner, followed by thoughtful and often humorous speeches, some poetry reading and singing of his beautiful verses, a demonstration of Highland Dancing and Celtic Harp music. – And, of course there will be bagpipes and haggis! It is a fun Scottish cultural event and is truly unique.
