Code of Ethics

Purpose

This Code of Ethics serves to guide the behavior, actions, and decisions of all members, volunteers, leaders, and participants involved with the Scottish Cultural Organization of the Triangle. Our mission is to introduce and promote the culture of Scotland in the Triangle area of North Carolina. We are committed to fostering a welcoming, educational, and respectful environment that honors the rich traditions of Scottish culture while building strong bonds within North Carolina community. 

Core Values

  1. Respect
    All members shall treat one another, the public, and our cultural heritage with dignity and respect. We welcome all and commit to listening with openness and empathy.
  2. Community-Centered Engagement
    SCOT exists to serve and enrich the community. Every member is encouraged to contribute in ways that foster unity and shared purpose.
  3. Cultural Integrity and Stewardship
    We commit to preserving and promoting Scottish culture with accuracy, care, and respect. Programs, events, and representations must honor the traditions we seek to maintain.
  4. Accountability and Responsibility
    Members of SCOT are expected to act honestly, ethically, and with integrity in all organizational matters. We are stewards, not only of our cultural mission, but also of the trust our community places in us.
  5. Zero Tolerance for Disrespect or Harmful Behavior
    Any behavior that demeans, excludes, or threatens others will not be tolerated. Such actions are grounds for disciplinary action, up to and including dismissal from the organization.

Member Expectations

Members of the Scottish Cultural Organization of the Triangle are expected to:

  • Uphold the mission and reputation of the organization.
  • Treat all individuals with kindness, fairness, and civility.
  • Use constructive communication and avoid gossip or unverified claims.
  • Speak up against and report any violations of this Code of Ethics.

Commitment

By participating in the Scottish Cultural Organization of the Triangle, each member agrees to uphold these ethical principles and contribute positively to our shared mission. Together, we will ensure that Scottish culture thrives in a spirit of integrity and community.
